Graphite – A often overlooked important raw material in technology
Many of us have heard of the the carbon allotrope graphite. Both diamond and graphite are allotropes of carbon but unlike diamond, graphite is electrical conductor and a semi-metal.Graphite may be considered as the highest grade of coal and it offers highest natural strength and stiffness of any material with stability even at temperatures in excess of 3600 deg. celsius. It also offers resistance to corrosion, its compressible and flexible as well.
Graphite is mostly consumed for refractories, batteries, brake linings foundry facings, lubricants and for a number of other purposes. Most recent usage of graphite is found in lithium ion batteries and batteries used in hybrid electric vehicles. This particular automotive sector is growing and with that the demand for raw material graphite is also increasing.Other than this graphite is also used in fuel cell sector and nuclear power sector.
China is world largest producer of graphite and 80% of the world requirement for graphite is supplied by China. As the demand for graphite increases, many countries are looking forward to explore and produce their own graphite resource.Graphite Corporation is one such graphite exploration company which carries out graphite exploration services in albama and montana, two of america's largest resource areas for graphite.Producing graphite locally would allow countries to save huge costs incurred on importing and thus carrying out graphite exploration is of significance importance.Catering to this United states in almost 20 years would be producing its own graphite. This is a booming segment and the oppurtunity to invest is hopeful as well.
